Tuesday of Lent 2

Tuesday of Lent 2, March 14, 2017 Psalm 105:8

Psalm 105:8 English Standard Version (ESV)

8 He remembers his covenant forever,
the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations,

The Lord remembers His promises. If you were leaving on a long trip and  entrusted a rare family treasure, which a friend promised to keep safe  until your return, you would be a bit stunned to return and find that it had sold it at a yard sale. We’re hurt and sometimes broken when people fail to keep important promises. The Lord keeps His promises. David reminds us, “He remembers His covenant forever.” Paul would remind us, “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,  to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.  And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”  So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” – Galatians 4:4-7 Thanks be to God. In Christ the promises of God are made and kept.

O God, you willed to redeem us from all iniquity by your Son: Deliver us when we are tempted to regard sin without abhorrence, and let the virtue of his passion come between us and our mortal enemy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives, and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen  1
