Today the Feast of Purim begins
Purim is considered a minor holiday on the Jewish religious calendar. The primary commandment of Purim is to recite three blessings before hearing the reading of the book of Esther from the Scriptures.
Blessed art Thou, Lord our God, Master of the Universe, who sanctified us with His commandments and commands us regarding the reading of the Scripture.
Blessed art Thou, Lord our God, Master of the Universe, who performed miracles for our Fathers in those days at this time.
Blessed art Thou, Lord our God, Master of the Universe, who has kept us alive and has sustained us and has brought us to this season.
After these blessings are recited the book of Esther is read. At the end of the reading an additional blessings regarding God’s vengeance is recited and then the party takes place!
