Saturday of Lent 1, March 11, 2017 Psalm 118:5
Psalm 118:5 English Standard Version (ESV)
5 Out of my distress I called on the LORD;
the LORD answered me and set me free.
We are challenged to pray. At all times. In every circumstance. Especially in hard and desperate times. The life of David was a life dependent on prayer. His was a life of prayer because he was dependent upon God. The Psalmist gives us good reason why he sought the Lord especially during stressful times. The Lord answered. The Lord set him free. In every circumstance do not forget to pray. In every situation take it to the Lord in prayer.
Purim begins today. Read the Book of Esther. Consider how God has worked quietly and calmly "behind the scenes" in your life to bring about your safety and security. And since it is the beginning of Purim, treat yourself to some raisin cake!

O God, by your Word you marvelously carry out the work of reconciliation: Grant that in our Lenten fast we may be devoted to you with all our hearts, and united with one another in prayer and holy love; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. 1
