Saturday after Ash Wednesday

SATURDAY, MARCH 05, 2022 Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:1–8
Additional Scriptures:
Psalm 91:1–2, 9–16; John 12:27–36

For everything there is a season. We are now in the season of Lent. Now is the time for weeping over sin. Now is the time for reflection on Christ’s cross and His holy passion. Now is the time for prayer and devotion. There is a time and a season for everything. Says, Luther, “All human works and efforts have a certain and definite time of acting, of beginning, and of ending, beyond human control. Thus this is spoken in opposition to free will. It is not up to us to prescribe the time, the manner, or effect of the things that are be done; and so it is obvious that here our strivings and efforts are unreliable. Everything comes and goes at the time that God has appointed. He proves this on the basis of examples of human works whose times lie outside the choice of man. [1]

Rejoice, O Lord, the countenance of Thy servants; and deliver our souls from the lowest hell, that protected by Thy mercy, we may with spiritual strength tread fleshly desires under foot; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with Thee and the Holy Ghost, One God, world without end. Amen.  [2]

Almighty and everlasting God, mercifully look upon our infirmities, and in all our dangers and necessities stretch forth Your right hand to help and defend us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.  [3]

God of might and compassion, You sent Your Word into the world as a watchman to announce the dawn of salvation. Do not leave us in the depths of our sins, but listen to Your Church pleading for the fullness of Your redeeming grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. [4]
