Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday– April 12 2002 – Acts 2:24

[1]

Christ Jesus lay in death’s strong bands
    For our offenses given;
But now at God’s right hand He stands
    And brings us life from heaven.
Therefore let us joyful be
And sing to God right thankfully
    Loud songs of alleluia!
        Alleluia! [2]

God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.” – Acts 2:24

During his Pentecost sermon, Peter preached Christ, crucified and risen for you. It was not possible for Jesus to be held captive by death. His death destroyed death. His live is given to you as an inheritance. God raised him up is the story of victory, your victory! Of all the days of the years this day, Easter Sunday the church proclaims Jesus’ victory and ours. We proclaim freedom for our champion Jesus is risen from the dead giving life to all who receive Him by faith. Weep no more. The gift of life is yours in Jesus Christ.

Almighty God the Father, through Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, You have overcome death and opened the gate of everlasting life to us. Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of our Lord’s resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by Your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. [3]
