Monday of Holy Week

Monday of Holy Week, April 10, 2017 Psalm 36:9

Psalm 36:9 English Standard Version (ESV)

9 For with you is the fountain of life;
    in your light do we see light.

God and His Word are compared to refreshing waters (See Proverbs 18:4; Isaiah 55:1) God gives life in both temporal and eternal realms. Ultimately, for sinners, God provides the water of life through Jesus Christ. Apart from Him, we are in darkness. Knowing Him brings enlightenment and joy.

The cross is now our focus as we enter this important week in the life of the church. It is Christ elevated on a cross, which will draw people to Himself. He bore our sins in His body on the tree that we might die to sin and live unto righteousness. By his wounds, you have been healed. – 1 Peter 2:24 How does Jesus’ death and resurrection make you better? How might you communicate His sacrifice to others?

Grant, we beseech Thee, Almighty God, that we, who amid so many adversities do fail through our own infirmities, may be restored through the Passion and intercession of Thine only-begotten Son.

Almighty God, whose dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other that the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
