Monday prior to Proper 25

Psalm 56:10–13; antiphon, Psalm 56:3—In whom shall we place our trust? The Introit tells us, place our trust in God . . . in the LORD. The word ‘LORD’ is in all capitals in your Bible because it reflects the covenant name of God, Yahweh. The LORD is the One who keeps His covenants, keeps His promises. After man sinned, He promised to send a Savior (Genesis 3:15), and kept that promise by sending His Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ, into the world to atone for sin. He has delivered my soul from death . . . that I may walk before God in the light of life.

David is confident to declare in the antiphon “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” These are simple sure words to live by. There may be much for us to be afraid; night terrors and days filled with panic and dread. Overcome fear with faith. And faith always finds its focus in Christ. With Peter we can declare “Cast all your anxiety upon Him because He cares for you.” -1 Peter 5:7

True, fear is real. So, place your focus on Christ. Fix your eyes on Jesus especially in times of trouble. -17 October 2022

Father in heaven, the hand of your loving kindness powerfully yet gently guides al the moments of our day. Go before us in our pilgrimage of life, anticipate our needs and prevent our failing. Send your Spirit to unite us in faith, that sharing in your service we may rejoice in your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen[1]
