Saturday of Lent 4

DAY 28: March 20, 2021 Saturday of Lent 4- Matthew 6:19-34

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. – Matthew 6:19-21

Jesus said, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:19-21).

Humans everywhere, whether rich or poor are prone to collecting earthly treasures. Yet, only heavenly treasures are eternal. As children of light, God calls us to be generous with our possessions and to serve God as our master rather than live as slaves to possessions. For our sake, Christ became the servant of all – to save all – by bearing all of our sins and granting us right, surpassing, eternal forgiveness.  [2]

We are in Lent. But we look forward to Easter. Easter has a way of reminding us of what's important. What's really important in life? Where is your treasure? We know where God's treasure is. You are His treasure. He refused to live without you, so He gave His one and only Son up to death on a cross so that He could make you His own. And no one can take you away from Jesus—not even death.

Heavenly Father, lead me to “seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.-Colossians 3:1

Lord Jesus Christ, Your body was anointed with holy oil by the woman at the house of Simon the leper to prepare it for burial. May Your Church continue to take care of Your Body as she feeds Your people the holy food of Your very body and blood for the forgiveness of sins; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. [3]

Oh Lord, please forgive us for our selfish ambitions, holding onto our time and money as though it were ours. It all belongs to You, Lord. We recognize that everything we enjoy is a gift from You. It is only by Your mercies that are new every morning that we are not consumed. Thank You for Your great patience with us, for remembering that we are dust. Help us Lord, to recognize the greatness of Your power and Your Presence within us so that we can be led in righteousness for Your Great Name’s sake (Psalm 23:3). Help us to humbly accept that which You died to give us.  Please continue to remember us according to Your tender mercies and loving kindness.  Blessed be Your Name forever and ever. Amen! [4]
