Wednesday of Lent 4 – April 3, 2019 – Psalm 132:13
For the Lord
has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place:
God’s promises are always sure. Psalm 132
reminds of these promises and encourages us to remember them.
The desire of God to dwell among the people
whom he has chosen for Himself. This is both gracious and natural. Christ’s love will not
rest apart from those upon whom He has placed it. God desires to abide with
those whom He has loved with an everlasting love; and we do not wonder that it
should be so. It is a wonder however that the Lord should choose and desire
such poor creatures as we are. Yet the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the
lives of believers is a wonder of grace parallel to the incarnation of Jesus
the Son of God.
The Nicean Council, which met in 325,
developed the Nicene Creed from the earlier Apostles' Creed. This council
refined its wording so that both Jesus' divinity, in addition to His humanity,
was plainly expressed and proclaimed. This Creed is recited at the celebration
of Communion. The Creed reminds us “who
for us men and our salvation came down from heaven and was made man.” For
you – Jesus He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the
Virgin Mary. This is what salvation looks like. Jesus entered this world,
suffered, died and rose again – for you.
O Lord our God, You sustained
Your people in the wilderness with bread from heaven: Feed now Your pilgrim
flock with the food that endures to eternal life; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and
ever. Amen[1]
