Monday, March 2, 2009 – Despair of God’s Silence – Psalm 22:1-2

This is pretty bleak. David is being oppressed undeservedly from many sides and has no control over his situation. It is apparent his prayers are not being answered to his satisfaction, and he feels abandoned by God.

This speaks to the self centered nature of the human condition. We believe in the power of prayer, yet unsatisfied with the result at times when it seemingly goes unanswered. Yet it also speaks to the hope that our prayers will be answered, if not so, then why pray.

There will always be suffering, our own as well as others. It is difficult not to ask why is this happening to me as well as to others. Peace can come over us when we realize that God is always with us, He will guide us through. He will always listen. His answers will come in His time, not ours.

Father, when Your Son was handed over to torture and felt abandoned by You, He cried out from the cross. Then death was destroyed, and life was restored. By His death and resurrection save the poor, lift up the downtrodden, break the chains of the oppressed, that Your Church may sing Your praises; through Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
