Friday of Lent 2

FRIDAY, MARCH 11, 2022                                             Scripture Reading: Philippians 3:17–20
Additional Scriptures: Psalm 27; Genesis 14:17–24

Paul did not say here, “Follow me and only me.” Instead he reminds the Philippians that in addition to the example of his own life, there are others who are walking the right path that Paul had instructed. Paul wants the Philippians to follow his example while also looking to other people who are walking on the right path. As a result, I think we need to find mentors in our world whom we can talk to, learn from, and follow.
Most of my adult life I have had mentors that have guided me both in the practical aspects of everyday living as well as the professional experiences that I have been through. Mentors have helped me do more with the small resources I have had. Leaders need mentors. Who are the mentors in your life? How do you follow their godly example?
Lord Christ, our eternal Redeemer, grant us such fellowship in Your sufferings, that filled with Your Holy Spirit, we may subdue the flesh to the spirit, and the spirit to You, and at the last attain to the glory of Your resurrection; who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.[2]
Lord Jesus, Son of the Most High God, You freed many from their bondage to demons, demonstrating Your power over the evil one. Show us Your mercy when we are overcome by the darkness of sin, death, and the devil, and protect us by Your mighty Word that does what it says; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.[3]
