Friday of Lent 3

Friday of Lent 3, March 9, 2018                               Hosea 14:1-9

The overwhelming evidence of Israel’s apostasy shows that Hosea’s indictment was true. In our own case, the verdict is similarly clear. However, Jesus Christ has borne our sentence for us. The dew of the mercy and the shade of His cross heal our apostasy. He renders us innocent before God’s holy tribunal. 1

By the grace of God, you forgive also. It is not for you to condemn. Rather you forgive. As God in Christ has forgiven you. Though we daily sin against each other. And so often fail miserably on this account. To simply forgive. We continue to ask the Father for the strength and the mercy to simply forgive.

Hymn: The Church’s One Foundation (Lutheran Service Book 644:1)
The Church’s one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation
By water and the Word.
From heav’n He came and sought her
To be His holy bride;
With His own blood he bought her,
And for her life He died.

We thank You, Lord Jesus, for all that You have done to make us holy and righteous. Enable us to walk in Your ways now and always.

Grant us, O Lord our Strength, to have a True Love of Your Holy Name; so that, trusting in Your grace, we may fear no earthly evil, nor fix our hearts on earthly goods, but may rejoice in Your full salvation; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. 2
