Wednesday of Lent 2

The Third Article.

Of Sanctification.

I believe in the Holy Spirit; one holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Second Article tells us how salvation was prepared and earned for us by Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. The Third Article tells us how it is imparted to us by the work of the Third person of the Godhead – the Holy Spirit. The work of redemption is finished, in Jesus. The work of sanctification goes on – to the end of time.  It is the Holy Spirit, which sanctifies us, that is, He makes us holy, by bringing us to faith in Christ and imparts to us the blessings of redemption.

During Lent we spend extra time in meditation, prayer, and Bible reading. It is the Holy Spirit that is guiding you, leading you to a deeper understanding of Christ and His love for you. If there is to be any growth in God, it is the Holy Spirit working through His Word drawing you closer to Himself.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, because of Your tender love toward us sinners You have given us Your Son that, believing in Him, we might have everlasting life. Continue to grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may remain steadfast I this faith to the end and finally come to life everlasting; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
